Anubis, the Egyptian God of the afterlife, death and the transition between each. He was in charge of caring for the departed and making sure the funerary rites were conducted in the correct way. Anubis was the guide who lead the departed souls safely to the underworld.
Anubis is one of the oldest known Egyptian Gods who's earliest known mention dates back to between 6000 and3150 BCE. These mentions were depicted (as one would expect) on tomb walls that themselves dated back to 3150 and 2890 BCE (Egypt's first dynasty)
