Although the first thing you will notice is the crescent moon shape and the moon phases along its length, if you look closely, you will see that in place of the full moon in the center of the phases there is an image of the triskelion. And if you look closer still, you will see two tiny witches knots at each tip. This has fast become one of my favorite pieces.
The triskelion is believed to be one of the oldest symbols of spirituality according to historians. The symbol itself is representative of the tree elements, those being earth, air and water. Depending on your particular belief system it can also be symbolic of the tree aspects of the goddess, being the maiden, mother and crone or it has been associated with the three aspects of the physical world, the spirit world and the celestial world. It is also believed to symbolize strength, progress and the ability to move forward through life.
Witches knots have been around for a very long time and are believed to create a barrier that that repels negative energies, curses and evil spirits. With these protective qualities it makes this hair piece the perfect charm to use as a protection amulet.
